When it comes to a mom’s mental health, grandparents play a significant role. In a recent study, researchers found that mothers are less likely to purchase antidepressants if their own parents are younger than 70, employed, and in good health. The study, which tracked nearly 500,000 mothers in Finland between 2000 and 2014, also showed a strong connection between access to grandparents’ help and lower use of antidepressants, particularly in separated mothers. The study emphasized the importance of support from others in protecting individuals from depression and its impact on both the mothers’ well-being and the outcomes for children living with separated mothers.
